  EVENT :: THE ROTARY CLUBS OF HUTT VALLEY, LONG WALK HOME
In the event of a major disaster road and rail links out of Wellington City could be rendered impassable for many days, possibly longer. For many people, the only way home will be on foot.

This event, organised by Rotary Clubs across the Hutt Valley, is to help raise awareness for commuters who may need to walk the long journey home.

The walk goes across the Petone Esplanade and follows the Hutt River Trail - a truly scenic and flat trek suitable for all ages! All proceeds go to charity.

Helpful Notes: Specific event information will be emailed out to registered participants in advance of the event. Below is more general information about the event.

The walk is approx 30km and expected to take around 6 - 7 hours.

Briefing will take place at the Wellington Railway Station at 8:15am for a 8:30am start. Walkers will head off down Thorndon Quay and under the overbridge to join Hutt Road which will be followed through to Ngauranga Exchange. Here walkers will turn right and pass under the SH1/2 flyover and continue along the harbour-side of SH2 to the Petone overbridge. At this point walkers will come onto the Petone Esplande heading to Waione Bridge whilst taking in the spectacular views. At the bridge walkers will cross over to the Eastern side of the Hutt River and continue right through to Silverstream, Upper Hutt.

The finishing location is the Riding for the Disabled grounds where walkers will be greeted by Rotary members and a BBQ. All bus and train services will be following the usual Sunday schedule and there is plenty of parking around the Silverstream Station and surrounding area.

There will be marshals along the route guiding walkers in the right direction. Water stations and toilets will be spaced out along the route however food will not be provided.
